A colorful and nutritious dish made with quinoa cooked in broth, accompanied by butternut squash, red bell pepper, and roasted green beans. A vegetarian recipe that brings variety and wellness to your dog’s bowl.

Quinoa is a very interesting complete grain for dogs as well: it is rich in protein, fiber, and essential amino acids, and it lends itself to many combinations. In this recipe, we pair it with a mix of sweet and crunchy vegetables like butternut squash, red bell pepper, and green beans, chosen to provide different colors and nutrients. The dish is served as a special meal or as a supplement to regular kibbles.

Ingredients

  • 250 g of diced butternut squash
  • 250 g of diced red bell pepper
  • 250 g of chopped green beans
  • 7 ml (half a tablespoon) of extra virgin olive oil
  • 180 g of rinsed quinoa
  • 480 ml of unsalted chicken or vegetable broth, without onion or garlic
  • 30 g of grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Procedure

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Season the squash, bell pepper, and green beans with olive oil and spread them on the baking sheet in a single layer.
  3. Bake for 20-25 minutes, rotating the baking sheet halfway through, until the vegetables are tender.
  4. Meanwhile, in a medium pot, combine the quinoa with the broth. Bring to a boil, lower the heat, cover, and simmer until the liquid is absorbed and the quinoa is tender.
  5. In a large bowl, combine the cooked quinoa with the roasted vegetables and mix.
  6. Let it cool slightly and, if your dog tolerates dairy, finish with a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese.

Notes

You can enrich the recipe with boiled and diced chicken or turkey, cooked salmon, hard-boiled eggs, or a tablespoon of natural yogurt. The vegetables are easily replaceable: carrots, sweet potatoes, boiled spinach, or peas work perfectly.

Storage

Store the cooled dish in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. For the freezer, divide into single portions to thaw only what is necessary.
