Donuts are not just for humans: in a mini version, sweetened with honey and banana and baked, they become a delicious surprise for dogs as well. The glaze, made with Greek yogurt and a teaspoon of honey, takes on a delicate natural pink color thanks to a drop of natural food coloring. They are perfect as a treat for special occasions like your dog's birthday.
Ingredients
For the mini donuts
- 200 g whole wheat flour
- 7 ml (1.5 teaspoons) baking powder
- 120 g ripe mashed banana
- 1 large egg
- 95 ml buttermilk
- 15 ml (1 tablespoon) honey
- Natural colored sprinkles (optional)
For the glaze
- 170 g Greek yogurt
- 15 ml (1 tablespoon) honey
- 2-3 drops of natural food coloring
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 175 degrees and lightly grease a mini donut pan.
- In a large bowl, mix the whole wheat flour and baking powder.
- In another bowl, combine the mashed banana, egg, buttermilk, and honey, and mix well.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and blend until you have a smooth batter.
- Transfer the batter to a piping bag or a bag with a corner cut off.
- Fill the cavities of the pan about three-quarters full.
- Bake for about 5 minutes, until the donuts are golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let them cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.
- For the glaze, mix the Greek yogurt, honey, and natural coloring in a small bowl.
- When the donuts are cool, glaze them by dipping or spreading with a teaspoon, and finish with colored sprinkles.
Notes
No chocolate, refined sugars, or artificial flavors in dog recipes. You can substitute buttermilk with Greek yogurt diluted with a splash of milk. Always keep dog treats as an occasional reward, never as a regular meal.
Storage
For the yogurt glaze, store the donuts in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days. Without glaze, they last a few more days in a closed container.
