Lean Pork, Apple and Oatmeal Porridge

An original porridge with lean pork, cooked apple, and oatmeal. Natural sweet-salty flavors and a good alternative nutritional profile.

Time ~40 min
Portions 5

The lean pork, apple, and oatmeal dish is a recipe that offers a rare combination in dog food recipes. Lean pork, well trimmed and thoroughly cooked, is a valid and digestible protein, while the cooked apple provides natural sweetness and soluble fiber.

Ingredients

  • 200 g of very lean pork loin
  • 1 medium apple (150 g) of the Renetta variety
  • 100 g of oatmeal
  • 120 g of carrots
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of extra virgin olive oil
  • 500 ml of water

Procedure

  1. Remove any visible traces of fat from the loin and cut it into small cubes.
  2. Cook the meat in unsalted water for 15 minutes over medium heat, until fully cooked. Important: the pork must always be well cooked.
  3. Peel the apple, carefully remove the core and seeds, and cut it into cubes.
  4. In a pot, bring 500 ml of water to a boil, add the oatmeal, and cook for 10 minutes, stirring often. The oatmeal should be creamy.
  5. Add the apple cubes during the last 5 minutes of cooking the oatmeal, so that it softens.
  6. Peel and grate or finely cube the carrots, and steam them for 6 minutes.
  7. Shred the meat, combine it with the oatmeal, apple, and carrots, add the EVO oil, and mix.

Notes

The lean pork must always be thoroughly cooked to eliminate any health risks. Cooked apple is particularly gentle on the digestive system and provides pectin, a soluble fiber that aids in intestinal regularity. Always check for tolerance to pork by introducing it gradually. Suitable for adult dogs, to be offered as a variation 1-2 times a week.

Storage

In the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Can be frozen in portions for up to 2 months.
