The light cod, broccoli, and cauliflower meal is a low-calorie recipe formulated for dogs on a weight loss plan. White fish is one of the leanest protein options available, while cruciferous vegetables provide a lot of volume and few calories, along with a good amount of antioxidants.
Ingredients
- 250 g of cod fillet
- 200 g of broccoli florets
- 200 g of cauliflower florets
- 40 g of white rice
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of extra virgin olive oil
Procedure
- Cook the rice in unsalted water following the package instructions.
- Carefully check the cod to remove any bones, then steam it for 8 minutes.
- Wash the broccoli and cauliflower, divide them into small florets, and steam them for 9-10 minutes until tender but still firm.
- Flake the cod with a fork, checking again for any bones.
- In a bowl, combine the fish, rice, and vegetables, add the EVO oil, and mix.
- Let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower can cause some intestinal bloating in certain dogs: introduce the recipe gradually and in small amounts to test tolerance. Cod is low in calories and high in protein, perfect for promoting satiety without exceeding calorie limits. Reduce the rice further if the dog needs a very restrictive plan, always in consultation with the veterinarian.
Storage
In the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Freezing after cooking is not recommended.
