Cod Cream with Potato and Peas

A velvety and light cream made with cod, potato, and peas. A delicate recipe, rich in high-quality proteins and perfect for soft meals.

Time ~30 min
Portions 4

The cod, potato, and pea cream is a light and easily digestible dish, particularly suitable for dogs that prefer soft textures. Cod is a source of lean protein with a good fatty acid profile, while potatoes and peas provide gentle carbohydrates and fibers.

Ingredients

  • 250 g of fresh or thawed cod fillet
  • 250 g of potatoes
  • 120 g of fresh or frozen peas
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of extra virgin olive oil
  • 400 ml of water
  • 1 bunch of fresh parsley

Method

  1. Peel the potatoes and cut them into even-sized cubes.
  2. In a pot, bring 400 ml of water to a boil and cook the potatoes for 12 minutes.
  3. Add the peas and continue cooking for another 6 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, check that the cod has no residual bones, then steam it for 8 minutes, until it flakes easily with a fork.
  5. Drain the potatoes and peas, reserving 2 ladles of the cooking water.
  6. In a bowl, mash the potatoes and peas with a fork, add the flaked cod and the extra virgin olive oil. Adjust the consistency with the reserved cooking water until you achieve a smooth cream.
  7. Finish with chopped parsley and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Cod is a very lean white fish, an excellent source of high biological value proteins and iodine. It is essential to remove all bones before cooking: run your fingers over the fillet to detect even the smallest bones. This cream is ideal for gentle meals and can also be offered to dogs recovering from mild gastric disturbances, always after consulting your veterinarian.

Storage

In the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Freezing is not recommended as it may alter the texture of the fish.
