The senior cod, potato, and fennel velouté is a very soft preparation, designed for elderly dogs who may have chewing difficulties or a more sensitive digestive system. Fennel is a vegetable with a delicate flavor that helps counteract intestinal bloating.
Ingredients
- 250 g of fresh cod fillet
- 250 g of potatoes
- 150 g of fennel
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of extra virgin olive oil
- 400 ml of water
Procedure
- Peel the potatoes, wash the fennel, removing the tougher outer leaves, and cut everything into cubes.
- In a pot, bring 400 ml of water to a boil, add the potatoes and fennel, and cook for 18 minutes.
- Meanwhile, carefully check that the cod has no bones and steam it for 8 minutes.
- Flake the cod carefully, checking again for any bones.
- Blend the potatoes and fennel with an immersion blender, adding a bit of cooking water if necessary.
- Add the flaked fish and EVO oil, mix, and let it cool slightly.
Notes
Senior dogs can benefit from meals with a soft texture that require less chewing effort. Cod is low in fat and rich in high biological value proteins, while fennel supports digestion. Potatoes provide gentle carbohydrates and potassium. Always check for the absence of bones, even small ones, before serving to your dog.
Storage
In the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Freezing is not recommended as it may alter the texture.
