The delicate rabbit and sweet potato stew is a recipe designed for senior dogs with food sensitivities or digestion issues. Rabbit meat is considered one of the most digestible and lean meats, and it is often a hypoallergenic choice because it is less common in commercial diets.
Ingredients
- 250 g of boneless rabbit meat
- 250 g of sweet potato
- 120 g of carrots
- 100 g of zucchini
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of extra virgin olive oil
- 500 ml of water
Instructions
- Carefully check that the rabbit meat is completely deboned by feeling it with your fingers.
- Cut it into 2 cm cubes.
- In a pot, heat the extra virgin olive oil over medium heat and sauté the rabbit for 3 minutes.
- Add 500 ml of water, cover, and cook on low heat for 45 minutes.
- Peel the sweet potato and cut it into cubes, wash and chop the carrots and zucchini.
- Add the vegetables to the pot and continue for another 20 minutes, until the meat is very tender.
- Shred the meat with a fork and let it cool before serving.
Notes
Rabbit is rich in lean protein, B vitamins, and iron. Its fat composition is particularly balanced. Sweet potato, with a lower glycemic index compared to regular potato, is perfect for senior dogs that need to manage their weight. Take care while preparing: rabbit bones are particularly small and can be dangerous.
Storage
In the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Can be frozen in portions for up to 2 months.
