Bone broth is a great addition to your dog's diet: rich in minerals, gelatinous and fragrant, it can be used as a topper on their food or as a hydrating drink. With just a few beef bones and some vegetables, you can prepare large quantities to freeze.
Ingredients
- 1.4 kg of beef bones (about 3 lb)
- about 3.8 liters of water (16 cups)
- 3 carrots sliced (optional)
- 2 stalks of chopped celery (optional)
Instructions
- Pour the water into a slow cooker or a large pot on the stove and bring it to medium heat.
- Add the beef bones and, if desired, the vegetables.
- Bring to a boil, cover with a lid and let it simmer on low heat for 10 hours.
- When the broth is golden and thick, retrieve the marrow from the bones and stir it into the broth. Remove the bones.
- Let it cool and serve it to your dog or store for later use.
Notes
Do not use cooked bones as treats: always remove them after preparing the broth.
Storage
In the refrigerator for up to 5 days or in the freezer for up to 12 months.
