Steamed Salmon Bites for Cats

Tender steamed salmon bites: a gentle, omega-3-rich meal perfect for adult cats who love fish and need a shiny, healthy coat.

Time ~15 min
Portions 2

Salmon is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, which are valuable for the health of your cat's skin, coat and joints. Steamed, it stays soft and juicy without any added fat. These little bites are simple to prepare and perfect for cats who enjoy fish, making a great occasional meal in place of their usual meat.

Ingredients

  • 120 g fresh salmon fillet, skinless and boneless
  • 1 tablespoon of cooking water

Method

  1. Check the fillet carefully and remove any bones by running your fingers along the flesh.
  2. Steam the salmon for 8–10 minutes, until it turns opaque and flakes easily.
  3. Leave to cool slightly, then break into small bite-sized pieces suited to your cat's mouth.
  4. Add a tablespoon of the cooking water to make it more moist and aromatic.
  5. Serve warm, never piping hot.

Notes

Salmon should always be cooked: raw salmon can contain parasites and an enzyme that destroys vitamin B1. No salt or seasonings. As with all fish, offer it in moderation and alternate it with meat, which remains the foundation of a strict carnivore's diet. This is a supplementary meal, not a complete one: speak to your vet about your cat's daily diet.

Storage

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Can be frozen in single portions for up to 2 months. Warm gently before serving.
