The senior meal with turkey, pumpkin, and brown rice is formulated for senior dogs who need a light yet nutritious meal, with a good supply of antioxidants. Pumpkin, rich in carotenoids, and turkey, low in fat, are ideal for those with slower digestion or a slowed metabolism.
Ingredients
- 200 g of turkey breast
- 250 g of cleaned pumpkin
- 100 g of brown rice
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of extra virgin olive oil
- 500 ml of water
- 1 bunch of fresh parsley
Procedure
- Cook the brown rice in 500 ml of water for 35-40 minutes, until fully cooked. It should be soft.
- Cut the pumpkin into cubes and steam it for 15 minutes, until tender.
- Boil the turkey breast in unsalted water for 12 minutes, then shred it finely.
- Lightly mash the pumpkin with a fork to make it softer.
- In a bowl, combine the rice, pumpkin, turkey, and EVO oil. Mix well.
- Finish with chopped parsley and let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Senior dogs may need more frequent and smaller meals. Turkey is a lean and light protein, while pumpkin helps intestinal regularity due to its soluble fiber content. Well-cooked brown rice is a low glycemic index carbohydrate. Always adjust the portions to the specific needs of the senior dog, ideally in consultation with your trusted veterinarian.
Storage
In the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Freeze in portions for a maximum of 2 months.
