Time ~80 min
Portions 4

Lean beef stew with sweet potato is a rich and nutritious homemade recipe, suitable for healthy adult dogs who need a hearty meal. The long, slow cooking makes the meat tender and easy to chew, while the sweet potato provides complex carbohydrates and a good dose of vitamin A.

Ingredients

  • 250 g of lean beef (lean chuck or trimmed shoulder cut)
  • 200 g of sweet potato
  • 100 g of carrots
  • 80 g of green beans
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of extra virgin olive oil
  • 400 ml of water

Procedure

  1. Remove any visible fat from the beef and cut it into cubes of about 2 cm.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed pot, heat the EVO oil over medium heat and brown the meat for 3-4 minutes, turning it often.
  3. Add 400 ml of water, cover, and let it simmer on low heat for 50 minutes.
  4. Peel the sweet potato and cut it into cubes; clean the carrots and green beans and chop them into small pieces.
  5. Add all the vegetables to the pot and continue cooking for another 20 minutes, until the meat is tender and the vegetables are soft.
  6. Let it cool slightly and shred the meat with a fork before serving.

Notes

Lean beef is rich in heme iron, zinc, and B vitamins, which are essential for energy and the immune system. Sweet potato is a source of low glycemic impact carbohydrates, particularly suitable for dogs sensitive to grains. This stew is ideal in the winter months or for dogs that engage in regular physical activity.

Storage

In the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3 days. It freezes well in single portions for a maximum of 2 months.
