The dehydrated chicken liver snack is a single-ingredient, natural treat that is free from preservatives. Liver is an extremely nutritious food, rich in vitamin A, iron, and protein, to be used in small amounts as an incentive during training.
Ingredients
- 300 g of fresh chicken liver
Procedure
- Rinse the chicken liver under cold running water and pat it dry with paper towels.
- Remove any light parts or connective tissue, and slice it into thin strips (about 0.5 cm thick).
- Preheat the oven to 90 °C in fan mode.
- Arrange the liver strips on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, spaced well apart.
- Bake for 2.5-3 hours, leaving the oven door slightly open (you can insert a wooden spoon) to allow moisture to escape.
- The strips should be dry but still slightly flexible. Let them cool completely before storing.
Notes
Liver is a food very high in vitamin A, which is why it should be given in small amounts: a maximum of 1-2 pieces per day for a 10 kg dog. An excess can lead to hypervitaminosis A. This snack is ideal as a reward during training sessions because it has a strong scent that easily captures the dog's attention.
Storage
In an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. It can be frozen in small portions for up to 3 months.
