Liver is one of the most nutritious foods you can offer your cat: it's rich in taurine, iron, B vitamins, and an abundance of vitamin A. Precisely because it is so concentrated, it should be used in small amounts, as a meal enhancer. This smooth, fragrant mousse makes a powerful topper — just a few grams are enough to make your cat's bowl utterly irresistible.
Ingredients
- 100 g fresh chicken livers
- 120 ml water
Method
- Rinse the chicken livers and remove any traces of fat or connective tissue.
- Cook them in water over medium heat for 8–10 minutes, until no longer pink inside.
- Leave to cool slightly, then blend the livers with a little of the cooking liquid until you obtain a smooth mousse.
- Serve half a teaspoon on top of your cat's usual meal as a topper, or spread a thin layer as a treat.
Notes
Pay attention to portion size: liver is extremely high in vitamin A, and over time an excess can be harmful. Use it as an occasional small topper (1–2 times a week), not as a main meal. Always cook the liver thoroughly. Introduce it gradually to avoid loose stools. It is not a substitute for a complete and balanced diet.
Storage
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2–3 days. It freezes very well in single-portion moulds for up to 3 months: simply thaw one portion as needed.
