Give your dog a meal made with real, nutritious foods with this simple chicken and salmon recipe. Lean chicken, canned salmon, broccoli, and leafy greens come together to provide quality protein, good fats, and fiber, contributing to a shiny coat and strong muscles.

Ingredients

  • 454 g of chicken with skin (about 1 pound)
  • 240 ml of water
  • 70 g of chopped leafy greens (e.g., spinach, Swiss chard)
  • 114 g of broccoli
  • 50 g of canned salmon in its own juice
  • 50 g of essential nutrient mix for dogs

Whole food version (alternative to the nutrient mix):

  • 50 g of chicken liver
  • 24 g of chopped sunflower seeds
  • 5 g of nutritional yeast flakes
  • 4 g of calcium from algae (Animal Essentials)
  • 0.5 g of kelp powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 175 degrees.
  2. Place the chicken in a baking dish with the water, cover, and cook for about 20 minutes, until fully cooked. If using the whole food version, add the chicken liver along with the chicken.
  3. Meanwhile, steam the broccoli and leafy greens until soft.
  4. Let the chicken cool, then cut it into bite-sized pieces.
  5. In a large bowl, combine the chicken, cooked vegetables, canned salmon, and nutrient mix (or finely chopped whole food ingredients).
  6. Mix well until everything is combined, allow to cool, and divide into portions.

Notes

Formulated for the maintenance of adult dogs. Yield: about 825 g, 1214 calories. The skin of the chicken provides good fats useful for energy and coat.
