The Peterbald looks like it came straight out of a fairy tale: a slender body like a Siamese, huge pointed ears, and skin that is either completely bare or covered with a few fine hairs. It resembles an elf. Yet it is a real cat, with one of the sweetest temperaments in the feline world.
Origins
The Peterbald was born in Russia (Saint Petersburg) in 1994 from the crossbreeding of a Donskoy (Russian hairless cat) and an Oriental Shorthair. Hence the name: "Peter" for Saint Petersburg, "bald" for "hairless" in English. It became an official breed in 1996.
Appearance
- Weight: 3-5 kg.
- Body: slender, muscular, elegant.
- Skin: can be completely hairless ("ultra bald"), velvet, flock, brush (with more soft hairs), or "straight coat" (with normal short hair but hairless gene).
- Ears: huge, wide at the base, pointed.

- Regular baths (1-2 times a month).
- Cleaning ears and paws.

Never expose it directly to the sun: risk of sunburn. If you go to the garden: shaded area or specific sunscreen for animals.
