Steamed Chicken and Carrot Meatballs for Cats

Tender chicken meatballs with a touch of carrot, gently steamed for a light, protein-rich meal that's easy to portion — perfect for adult cats every day.

Time ~25 min
Portions 4

Chicken is the perfect base for a cat meal: lean, easy to digest, and packed with protein. In these steamed meatballs, we add just a pinch of grated carrot, which brings a touch of colour and gentle fibre without weighing things down. Steaming keeps the meat soft and moist, making it ideal even for cats that don't drink much water.

Ingredients

  • 150 g ground chicken breast (or finely chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon boiled and mashed carrot
  • 1 tablespoon water

Method

  1. Boil a small piece of carrot until soft, then mash it with a fork.
  2. Mix the ground chicken with the mashed carrot and a tablespoon of water until you have a smooth, even mixture.
  3. Shape into small meatballs, roughly the size of a hazelnut.
  4. Steam for 10–12 minutes, until cooked through.
  5. Leave to cool slightly before serving; press them gently for cats that prefer softer textures.

Notes

Carrot should be used in a very small amount: cats are carnivores and vegetables are just an accent, not a main ingredient. No salt, onion, garlic, or seasonings. Always cook the chicken thoroughly. This is a tasty supplementary meal, not a complete one: speak to your vet about portion sizes for your cat's daily diet.

Storage

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. They can be frozen once cooked for up to 2 months; thaw in the refrigerator and warm gently before serving at room temperature.
