A light yet flavorful porridge made with lean beef, pumpkin, and spinach. Combines taste and low calories for dogs in a weight loss phase.

Time ~35 min
Portions 4

The light beef, pumpkin, and spinach puree is a recipe that shows how losing weight doesn’t have to mean sacrificing flavor. By selecting a very lean cut of beef and carefully trimming off visible fat, you can create a tasty but low-calorie dish.

Ingredients

  • 180 g of very lean beef (top round or flank)
  • 250 g of cleaned pumpkin
  • 150 g of fresh spinach
  • 40 g of white rice
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of extra virgin olive oil

Instructions

  1. Carefully remove any visible fat from the beef and cut it into very small cubes.
  2. Cook the rice in unsalted water following the packaging instructions.
  3. Cut the pumpkin into cubes and steam it for 12 minutes.
  4. Wash the spinach thoroughly, blanch it for 3 minutes, drain it, squeeze it, and chop it coarsely.
  5. In a non-stick pan, cook the beef over low heat without added fats for 4-5 minutes, stirring.
  6. In a bowl, combine all the ingredients, add the EVO oil and mix.

Notes

The top round and flank are among the leanest cuts of beef, with very low fat content. The pumpkin is filling and low in calories, while the spinach adds iron and folates. The amount of rice is intentionally reduced to limit carbohydrate intake. Always serve warm and introduce gradually if your dog is not used to these ingredients.

Storage

In the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3 days. It can be frozen in portions for up to 2 months.
