Baked Tuna and Rice Bites

Small tasty bites made with natural tuna, rice, and egg. A fragrant and protein-rich snack, ideal as a reward during training.

Time ~30 min
Portions 10

Tuna and rice oven bites are a highly appreciated protein snack for dogs, thanks to the intense aroma of tuna. The rice binds the mixture, and the egg makes it compact, without the need for refined flours.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (160 g drained) of natural tuna, with no added salt, well drained
  • 100 g of already cooked white rice
  • 1 medium egg
  • 40 g of finely ground oats
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of extra virgin olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 175 °C.
  2. Drain the tuna very well, pressing it to remove any traces of liquid.
  3. Grind the oats with a blender to obtain a coarse flour.
  4. In a bowl, mash the tuna with a fork, add the cooked rice, egg, oat flour, and EVO oil.
  5. Mix until you obtain a moldable dough. If it's too soft, add an additional 10 g of oat flour.
  6. Form small bites of about 10 g (the size of a large hazelnut) and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Cook for 18-20 minutes, until golden. Allow to cool completely before serving.

Notes

Always choose natural tuna with no added salt, avoiding tuna in oil which is too fatty and caloric. Tuna is rich in protein and omega-3, but due to its mercury content, it should be given in moderation: these snacks are meant as an occasional treat, not as a meal. Limit to 2-3 bites per day for a 10 kg dog.

Storage

In an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. They can be frozen individually for a maximum of 1 month.
