Cooking dog biscuits at home means having full control over the ingredients and knowing exactly what your four-legged friend is eating. These chicken biscuits are rich in protein thanks to the cooked chicken breast, while the grated carrots add fiber and natural sweetness. As they bake, they smell so good that they might even attract the humans in the family.
Ingredients
- 225 g of whole wheat flour
- 200 g of all-purpose flour
- 50 g of low-fat milk powder
- 1 lightly beaten egg
- 140 g of cooked, shredded chicken breast (about 1 breast)
- 50 g of grated carrots
- 25 g of grated parmesan (optional)
- 180-240 ml of unsalted chicken broth free of onion or garlic
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 175 degrees.
- In a medium bowl, mix the flours and the milk powder.
- Add the egg, chicken, carrots, parmesan, and 180 ml of broth. Mix until you have a compact and moldable dough, adding more broth gradually if needed.
- Transfer to a lightly floured surface and knead briefly.
- Roll out the dough to about half a centimeter thick and cut out shapes with cookie cutters.
- Place the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 25-30 minutes, until the edges are nicely golden.
- Let the biscuits rest on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a cooling rack to cool completely.
Notes
If your dog doesn't tolerate dairy well, you can omit the parmesan and milk powder without compromising the result. The carrots can be replaced with grated pumpkin or chopped spinach. Look for a specific dog broth or a version without onion and garlic.
Storage
Due to the presence of chicken, store the biscuits in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They stay fresh for 4-5 days.
