Turkey and Pumpkin Velvet Purée for Senior Cats

A smooth, gently warm turkey and pumpkin cream that's easy to lap up even for senior cats with few teeth or a reduced appetite — digestible protein, added hydration, and a touch of delicate fibre.

Time ~30 min
Portions 3

As cats age, they may lose teeth, eat more slowly and drink less. A velvety, gently warmed texture helps them eat without effort and take in more fluids. This cream combines turkey — a lean, highly digestible meat — with a small amount of cooked pumpkin, which provides gentle fibre to support healthy digestion in senior cats. The result is an easy-to-lap, aromatic and nourishing meal.

Ingredients

  • 150 g turkey breast
  • 30 g cooked yellow pumpkin (steamed or boiled, no seasoning)
  • 400 ml water

Method

  1. Cut the turkey into small pieces and cook in water over a low heat for 20 minutes, without salt.
  2. Steam the pumpkin separately until very soft.
  3. Drain the turkey, reserving the broth, and leave to cool slightly.
  4. Blend the turkey and pumpkin with a stick blender, adding broth a little at a time until you have a smooth, not too thick cream.
  5. Check the temperature: it should be just lukewarm.
  6. Serve in a shallow, wide bowl that is comfortable for your senior cat's whiskers.

Notes

Pumpkin should be used in small amounts: too much fibre is not suitable for a strict carnivore. If your senior cat has kidney problems or other health conditions, their diet should be agreed with your vet, as protein requirements may vary. This velvety cream is a soft supplementary meal, not a complete food for exclusive daily use.

Storage

Refrigerate for up to 2 days in an airtight container. Freezes well in single-portion trays for up to 2 months. Reheat in a bain-marie and stir well before serving, always checking the temperature.
