Tuna & Egg Yolk Cream for Senior Cats

A soft, aromatic tuna and egg yolk cream designed for senior cats with a poor appetite — easy to lap up, protein-rich, and tempting enough to reawaken their desire to eat.

Time ~15 min
Portions 3

As cats age, many lose their appetite and find chewing difficult. A soft, richly scented cream like this tuna and egg yolk recipe can help stimulate hunger and make it easy for them to get the protein they need. Tuna adds flavour and appeals even to the fussiest cats, while the cooked yolk contributes nutrients and a creamy texture. The velvety consistency is ideal for more sensitive mouths.

Ingredients

  • 60 g of tuna in natural water, well drained
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2–3 tablespoons of lukewarm water

Method

  1. Cook the yolk: place the whole egg in boiling water for 7 minutes, cool and peel, then keep only the yolk.
  2. Drain the tuna in natural water very thoroughly.
  3. Blend the tuna and cooked yolk with the lukewarm water, adding it a little at a time, until you have a smooth, soft cream.
  4. Serve in a shallow, wide bowl that is comfortable for your senior cat's whiskers. The cream should be lukewarm and easy to lap up.

Notes

Use only tuna in natural water — never in oil or salted; egg white must always be cooked. Tuna is a tasty treat but low in taurine, so it should be alternated with meat and not given every day. For senior cats with kidney problems or other health conditions, diet should always be agreed upon with your vet, as their needs can vary. This is an appetising supplementary cream, not a complete meal.

Storage

Keep in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 1–2 days. Freezing is not recommended due to the yolk, which becomes grainy. It is best to prepare a small, fresh batch at a time.
