The Snowshoe is a cat that immediately catches the eye: its colorpoint coat, similar to that of the Siamese, is embellished with characteristic white "socks" on its paws — hence the name, which in English means "snowshoe" — and features striking blue eyes. It is a relatively recent breed and still quite rare.

A curious history

The Snowshoe originated in the United States in the 1960s, thanks to breeder Dorothy Hinds-Daugherty, who noticed some Siamese kittens with white paws and decided to select for this characteristic by crossing the Siamese with the bicolor American Shorthair. The goal was to fix the colorpoint pattern together with the unmistakable "socks." The breed was recognized by the TICA federation in 1983.

It is intelligent and learns quickly, with a vocal presence that is generally more subdued than that of the Siamese from which it descends.
